The advantages of a Grddle
There are many benefits to a griddle over a grill or a frying pan. Convenience is the main advantage.
Let’s look at eggs as an example.
Although you can use a grill to cook eggs, the edges of the grill pan make it difficult.
They canbe cooked in a fryingpan. Many do. But how many? For a family of four, it will be difficult to cook enough eggs in one frying pan.
A double-burner griddle is a great way to cook family breakfasts without having to worry about multiple pans and ridges. This time-saver is a real time saver
It’s so easy to make large, folded omelets on large griddles. To make it easier, you can separate the eggs and ingredients, then fold them together.
This is how it tastes best. You don’t need a large griddle to make it easy. This video will show you how to make it easy with a double-burner griddle.
Griddles can also be used to make pancakes. To get perfect pancake shapes, make sure to have a squeeze bottle.
Finally, the griddles have low sides which I believe makes it easier for a turner to be placed under food. Sometimes, I struggle to clean flipped food from a frying-pan.
Advantages of a Grddle
Grease buildup is the main problem with griddles when they are used in lieu of grills.
Grills can trap fat and grease between the ridges when you cook meat. A griddle will allow the food to soak up any fat.
Some griddles have channels that allow liquid to pool around the edges. Griddles may not be the best option for keeping food fat- and-grease-free.
Does My Griddle Need Handles?
You may notice that all my griddles have handles today.
The double burner griddles can be difficult to manage as they are often larger than 20 inches (50.8 cm). Many of them retain heat. You can also leave the griddle on the heat and place the food on plates. This is a good option for some people, but it can be difficult in small kitchens.
Some prefer to bring the griddle to their table, so that everyone can enjoy the meal. Some people find it easier to transport heavy objects with handles.
Handles are not always ideal, despite their usefulness. They can sometimes become extremely hot so gloves are necessary.
Their angle or placement is my main issue, which may be nitpicky.
Straight-Up Handles
Some handles point upwards, placing your arms in an awkward position to grasp them.
To grip my hands more easily, I have to put my elbows up with my palms facing down.
Flat Handles
Flat handles stick out from the sides of the griddle, so you can be near the still-hot burners or the griddle.
You shouldn’t have problems if you are very careful. It’s much easier to spill food if you are a little careless.
Handles that are raised or angled
These handles are protruding sideways, but they sit above the griddle.
These allow you to balance the griddle on the forearms and grasp the handles from below easily.
The angled handles are the same, but your elbows won’t be as prominent with them.
These are my favorite handles for griddles.
Reversible griddles: What about?
Some griddles have a grill at the back. These are great if you prefer the convenience of having one object stored on the back. This is also a great money-saver: two cooking surfaces for the cost of one.
These are not all positives. However, there are still downsides.
Reversible griddles: The disadvantages
Grills have ridges. These ridges can be difficult to place on burners , especially if they are too high for the edges of the griddle to rest on the stovetop.
It’s not a good idea to buy a double-burner griddle for gas stove tops, as they are old-fashioned.
What if you need to use the griddle and the grill simultaneously? To avoid burning grease or food residue, you’ll need to clean it and dry it between uses. WARNING! Food on the bottom of a pan can cause a fire hazard.
Best Double-Burner Griddle Materials
By deciding on handles, and whether or not to make the handle reversible, you can narrow down your options.
Now it is time to think about the materials for a double-burner griddle pan.
Here is a breakdown of three major griddle materials.
Cast iron
Cast iron is by far the strongest material in cookware–figuratively and literally.
It is hard to break, can withstand extreme temperatures and it is naturally nonstick once seasoned.
It is however heavy and not the most practical for storage or consistent use.
Anodized Aluminum
Anodized aluminum is light and durable. My old one was okay, even though I dropped it a few times.
It does tend to warp, despite its durability. Mine was slightly warped with each use, but it quickly returned to its original shape after cooling.
It did not return to its original form until the end, but it was more durable than an aluminum one. This material won’t be stained by food like regular aluminum. Anodizing an item creates a non-reactive and corrosion-resistant layer.
Aluminium
Aluminum is affordable, light and heats well. Aluminum warps easily at high temperatures despite its ability to spread heat.
Aluminum can also stain from excessive heat or grease. The stains are difficult to remove and can scratch your griddle if you scrub too hard.
This all depends on the coating. A quality nonstick coating can make a huge difference.
All Clad Hard-Anodized, Nonstick Griddle (Best Quality Double-Burner Griddle).
This is a great option if your looking for a double-burner griddle to go with an electric or gas stove. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with induction.
Due to its 20-inch (51cm) length, it can be placed across a larger stovetop. It’s oven safe up to 260 C (500 degF).
It’s made of anodized aluminum so it won’t rust or burn. It is lightweight because of the aluminum so it should be easy to lift despite its weight.
The handles make it easier to lift the bag, but I don’t like their position. They heat up quickly due to their stainless-steel construction.
However, they are more convenient than no handles for transport. However, they make it more difficult to place this in the dishwasher.
However, I must stress that hand-washing is the best option. Anyone who has used this pan will tell you. This will help to keep the non-stick coating intact. The best nonstick griddle can withstand a dishwasher run, but it lasts much longer.
Pros:

- Nonsticky and scratch-resistant
- Dishwasher safe
- Can withstand high oven temperatures
- All stovetops except induction work.
Cons:
- The best handle angle is not the best
- Hot handles
- It may be difficult to fit the dishwasher.

Lodge 20-Inch Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle (Best Large Griddle)
You don’t have to choose between a grill and a griddle. Why not use both? This cast iron pick measures 20 inches (51 cm). It is both a griddle as well as agrill.
This one is heavy. It is not something that everyone likes. Some people don’t mind it, but the heat distribution is not great.
Cast iron can be seasoned to make it nonstick. It’s pre-seasoned, but not well.
After you are done with the cooking process, grab the handles and take the tray from the heat source. They will be right next to the heat, so I don’t like their placement.
Pros:
- Pre-seasoned
- Long-lasting
- Durable
- Heat retention well
- It is easy to wash
Cons:
- You may need additional seasoning
- Incredible heavy
- The handles are not well-located
Victoria GDL-196 Rectangular Cast Iron Double Burner Griddle (Best Cast Iron Griddle)
The perfect size for my stove is this rectangular 2-burner griddle at 18.5×10 inches (47cm X25 cm). It can be used over two burners and has enough space to hold other pans.
These griddles come in many sizes so choose the one that best suits your needs. It is a good idea to measure your stove and burners before you start.
This product is high quality and has a very smooth surface for casting iron.
Flaxseed oil is pre-seasoned. This product is my favorite for seasoning cast iron.
Pros:
- Smooth finish
- Cast iron pre-seasoned with high quality flaxseed oils
- Decent handles
- High quality product
- Easy-grip handles
- Reversible – Can also be used for grilling
Cons:
- Pricy
- It is difficult to hold the handles when cooking
- Due to its shape, I don’t think this would work on an induction stove.

Lodge 16.5-Inch Cast Iron Reversible Grill/Griddle (Runner-Up – Best Cast Iron Double-Burner Griddle).
This smaller Lodge griddle is available in 16.5 inches (41.9 cm).
This griddle/grill combination has many similarities. Cast iron, pre-seasoned (though not well). Some users found that the food stuck to it, while others had no problems.
Customers also found that heat distribution was poor with this combination of griddle/grill, even though it is cast iron. This is a Lodge issue, as the previous model had this problem.
The two products have some differences despite the similarities. The first is that the grill marks on the new product are diagonal, rather than the vertical ridges on the old. This is fine, but it’s not the best thing.
This diagonal pattern can make it difficult to place the grill size on raised electric stoves. Although this was a concern for some before purchasing, it was minor in comparison to the handles.
The handles are small and located in a more secure location at the corners. They are still heating up, according to customers.

- Easy to store, very thin
- Combination grill/griddle

Cons:
- Seasoning is questionable – mixed customer feedback
- Handles perform badly

TFL A92114/C4061484 Double-Burner Griddle (Best Price Double Burner Griddler)
This aluminum grill might be a better choice than cast iron. It’s lighter than cast iron and has handles that I like.
You can keep your hands safe from the oven shelves and burners by removing the handles on either side.
This griddle is lightweight and easy to transport, thanks to its aluminum construction. It won’t weigh too much for your dishwasher.
Aluminum is not as durable as metals and may warp. Ceramic exterior can help to some extent. However, high heats are dangerous as there is still warp-ready aluminium within.
Many customers have many tips for preventing warping. For example, use it on low heats or medium heats and not too long. Despite these tips, warping is still an issue.
The interior is non-sticky and stain-resistant. This makes it easy to use, clean, and lasts for a long time. This is great because aluminum is and notstain resistant by itself.
Users report mixed results regarding heat distribution, even though the stove is made of aluminum. It heats evenly in the oven and is oven safe up to 176 degC (350 degF), however, be aware of possible warping.

Anolon Advanced Non-Stick Hard-Anodized Nonstick Griddle (Best Dual Burner Griddle).
Aluminum anodized is slightly more expensive than aluminum. However, many customers agree that it’s worth the extra weight and cost.
This restaurant-tested 18 inch (46 cm) griddle boasts all the heating properties and security of high-quality aluminum without warping or insecurity.
It is scratch- and nonsticky. It may not last as long as you think. Customers have had mixed experiences with its durability.
Even though the product is dishwasher-safe, it is best to wash the item by hand to maintain its coating.
Hand washing is easier, as the handles are difficult to fit into a dishwasher.
The handles on this griddle are my favorite. They are angled at an angle and easy to grip. The silicone coating will not heat up and they won’t melt. The handles have a spout that allows you to pour your liquid away. This prevents any splashback from hot liquids when gripping them.
Pros:
- Scratch-resistant
- It is easy to grasp the handles
- Lightweight, but sturdy
- Pouring spout
Cons:
- Customers discovered it eventually warps.
- Mixed reports about nonstick coatings
Cuisinart Classic Double Burner Grill
This griddle is made of an aluminum griddle that measures 20 inches (51 cm), which makes it lightweight and durable.
Its unique feature is its sloped sides. This maximizes your cooking space. Customers call it “perfect.”
A tapered rim and edge drip trough on the sides make it easy to pour liquids onto the nonstick surface. This feature has led to pancakes and eggs accumulating around the edges.
It’s also lightweight and easy to use. It’s lightweight and easy to carry, even though some users found the handles too big .
Overall, the griddle is not very distinctive. Customers’ main concerns are the handle-size and warping.

My Choice

The Anolon Advanced Non-Stick Grild Griddle is my favorite double-burner griddle. It is a very comfortable and affordable griddle that is readily available.
It’s super comfortable and light so it’s easy to move about.
Customers have had mixed experiences with this surface. It can also warp over time so I recommend treating it with care.

High Quality Double-Burner Griddle
You will need to spend more if you want it to last longer. The All Clad Hard Anodized Nonstick Gril is my choice for the best double-burner griddle. Despite my disapproval for the handles, this is an excellent product.
Based on customer feedback, it is highly-rated and there aren’t many complaints, which is quite unusual in nonstick cookware.
It’s an excellent, durable, and simple-to-use griddle that I would be happy to have in my home.
It’s a great product overall and I would recommend it. Unfortunately, it isn’t always possible. It’s worth looking if it is available at a reasonable price.
