I tried several Original GreenPan options, and the GreenPan Valencia Collection was the best for safe, easy to clean cookware.
Although I love having a wide range of cookware in my kitchen, the ones I use most often are nonstick, quick-washing pans that can be cleaned with soapy water and a sponge after cooking. You get bonus points if the pans can be used in the oven.
You might wonder if the Original GreenPan pans are worth it if you haven’t tried them.
Continue reading to learn why I love this cookware and the best Green Pan reviews.
What’s GreenPan?
GreenPan, a Belgian brand, was founded by Jan Helskens (Belgian frien) and Wim De Veirman (Belgian). They wanted to create a safer, more nonstick, better alternative to Teflon.
In 2007, they founded The Cookware Company, the company behind GreenPan. They also invented Thermolon – a nonstick ceramic nonstick coating made from sand.
What Can You Expect from Green Pan Ceramic Nonstick Cookware
The cookware company started perfecting the Original Green Pan after creating it. For even greater durability, they are now on the fifth generation of ceramic nonstick.
Here are some things you can expect from your Green Pan ceramic nonstick cookware.
- Interiors that resist scratches
- Ceramic nonstick Thermolon
- A stainless steel handle that is oven safe (most models).
- Reliable and even heating
- It is easy to clean
- Teflon-free, no PTFE, nor PFOA
- No toxic fumes
Ceramic Cookware
Ceramic nonstick cookware has the most important benefit of ceramic nonstick cookware. It is safe and nonstick. This makes it easy to cook everyday meals like cheese and scrambled eggs.
It’s easier to clean the ceramic nonstick surface than other pans. All you need to do is use a soft sponge, soap and warm water to clean the pan.
Non-stick ceramic pans such as those made by Green Pan are safe to use in the dishwasher. However, placing these pans in the dishwasher may cause their non-stick coatings to wear faster than hand washing.
This is an important selling point for many home chefs, so I will mention which Green Pan cookware sets can be washed.
Ceramic vs. Teflon
Ceramic nonstick is more safe than nonstick pans made of Teflon. Teflon contains PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). PTFE, a synthetic polymer, can cause serious health problems if it is heated too much.
It is important to keep Teflon (or PTFE) at a temperature below 260 degrees Celsius (500 F).
Ceramic nonstick is theoretically less susceptible to high temperatures than Teflon. It should therefore be considered safer.
But it isn’t all what it seems. Some ceramic nonsticks contain PTFE which is the main ingredient of Teflon. Although it’s not the end, some users may be disappointed.
Green Pan’s ceramic nonstick products are PTFE-free. I have checked them out. It is due to Thermolon nonstick coatings that Green Pan products have.
Thermolon uses silicone dioxide to make a ceramic nonstick coating that is very similar to glass.
Teflon, however, is a great nonstick coating that can be used for everyday pans if it’s done correctly.
Greenpan cookware can be used to make a PTFE-free cooking area.
The Best GreenPan Review
GreenPan offers a variety of collections, each with a single piece or a set. Here are GreenPan reviews that include each set’s pros & cons, so you can choose the right Green Pan for your home.
Each set uses Thermolon ceramic nonstick coating. This non-stick coating is free of Teflon, and it’s PTFE-free.
GreenPan Valencia Cookware Review- Best Overall
My top choice overall is the Valencia. These pans can be used with induction stovetops. They are also oven-safe. This cookware set is suitable for all cooking tasks.
Construction
The Valencia collection’s interior is made with thermalon, which is diamond-infused. This makes it less scratch-resistant than the Green Pan Lima.
Although the Valencia pans are safe for metal utensils due to their ceramic coating,
Performance and Cleaning
The Valencia collection is one the few GreenPan sets safe.
These nonstick pans are compatible with induction stoves. But don’t purchase them for that purpose. Due to the metals in their construction, most ceramic pans won’t work with induction stoves.
Induction compatibility is a feature of the Valencia’s special base layer. (Looking to buy induction cookware?) Other brands also make induction-compatible pans, which I have reviewed.
These pans can be washed in the dishwasher. However, some detergents that contain powders or granules can cause non-stick to wear faster than hand washing.
These pots and pans are a joy to use. I have even taken other reviews to recommend this cookware set.
While I am aware that there have been some problems with customers, that is not my experience. Most people are satisfied with the quality and performance of this cookware.
These cookware sets are not the most expensive, but they’re well worth the price.
Pros
- Dishwasher safe and safe for metal utensils
- Compatible with all stoves, even induction.
- The pan body and handle can be oven or broiler safe to 315°C (600°F).
- Glass lids are safe for oven temperatures up to 218°C (425°F).
- Three sizes of fry pan
Cons
- If food is charred, it can make interiors difficult to clean.
- Interior design can be done easily
GreenPan Venice Pro Cookware Review- Runner Up Best Overall
My runner-up in the best overall GreenPan collection is the GreenPan Venice Pro set. The non-stick interior is well-received by customers.
Construction
The Venice Pro collection’s exterior is made of 3-ply stainless-steel. The exterior has been strengthened with the Evershine finish that resists discoloration or damage.
The interior retains the same nonstick Thermolon nonstick coating that GreenPan cookware.
Performance and Cleaning
Venice Pro’s stainless steel exterior makes it compatible for induction stoves.
These pots and pans heat evenly, and require only low to medium heat to achieve the best results. Customers rave about the nonstick coating of the Venice Pro collection.
Could this be because they are more expensive and people tend to take better care?
You should use a dish towel or oven mitt to touch the lids and handles of frying pans.
Nonstick pans and pots can be washed in the dishwasher. I love the pour spout at the edges of the casseroles.
Pros
- Compatible with all stoves, even induction.
- Dishwasher safe and metal utensils safe
- The pan body and handle can be oven or broiler safe to 315°C (600°F).
- Glass lids are oven-safe up to 218°C (425°F).
Cons
- Without proper care, interior coatings can crack, especially in the lid area.
- Hot to the touch lids and handles
- Sets that are less expensive than others
- There have been reports that glass lids can crack with repeated use.
GreenPan Lima Cookware Review – Best Value
My pick for the best overall value is the GreenPan Lima Collection. This set is flexible and affordable, and it’s great for anyone new to GreenPan.
Construction
The exterior of the Lima set has an aluminum hard anodized finish and the interior is coated in their Thermolon ceramic nonstick coating. This coating is free from lead and cadmium, so it won’t emit harmful fumes even if you accidentally heat the cookware.
Performance and Cleaning
The manufacturer’s guidelines will help you get the best out of your Lima collection. These guidelines are simple, but can cause frustration for some customers.
GreenPans should be used at low heat.
These pans are very reliable if they are properly cleaned and used. You may need to replace the ceramic coating if it is damaged.
This set cannot be washed and should not be used with metal utensils. For cleaning, I recommend using a soft sponge and silicone utensils.
- The pan body and handle can be oven or broiler safe to 315°C (600°F).
- Glass lids can be used in an oven up to 218°C (425°F).
- Lightweight but sturdy
- If food is charred, it can make interiors difficult to clean.
- Interior design can be done easily
- Affordable
Cons
- Induction is not compatible
- Careful maintenance guidelines
- Customers comment that the exterior can rust if it is not dried properly
GreenPan Hudson Cookware Review- Runner Up for Best Value
My runner-up for best value is the GreenPan Hudson set. This set is very affordable, and I love the cool-touch wood handles.
Construction
The Hudson collection features a strong anodized aluminum frame and a ceramic Thermolon coat. It is similar to other GreenPans.
The handle is an exception. The Hudson cookware handles have a wood-look Bakelite design that keeps them cool while being handled.
Glass lid handles are still made of stainless steel.
Performance & Cleaning
These nonstick pans are a bit more finicky than others because of their construction. They can be washed in the dishwasher but they cannot be used with metal utensils.
The handles are made of Bakelite to keep them cool, but they can become discolored if heated above 138°C (280°F).
- Bakelite handles remain cool to the touch
- Dishwasher safe
- Affordable price
- Compatible with electric, gas, and glass top stoves
Cons
- Not metal utensil safe
- Cookware bodies can only be used in an oven that heats to 160°C (320°F).
- Some handle discoloration can happen above 138degC (280degF)
- The lid is not included with the saucepan
- The smallest 8-inch fry pan is 9.5 inches
GreenPan Chatham Cookware Review – Best for Oven Use
GreenPan Chatham is my favorite choice for oven use. It can be used in an oven or broiler at up to 315°C (600°F). The package also includes a 5-quart covered casserole.
Construction
The Chatham is another set that features an anodized aluminum exterior that resists scratching. It also has GreenPan’s Thermolon nonstick coating to provide a durable and easy-clean surface for cooking.
These nonstick pans are resistant to metal utensils thanks to their diamond-infused coating.
Some people have complained about the nonstick coating scratching or chipping. I would still recommend that you avoid metal whenever possible.
Performance and Cleaning
Nonstick pans are subject to the same temperature restrictions that the other ones on this list. Your nonstick pans will last longer if the heat is kept lower, at least medium. This is especially true for fry pans.
These pans heat quickly and have exceptional heat distribution, making them perfect for everyday use.
These can be washed in the dishwasher. However, you can clean them by hand with warm soapy water and a soft sponge for a longer-lasting, non-sticky clean.
You can burn extra virgin olive oil or cooking oil spray onto your pans. This causes messy cleanup and reduces the nonstick.
Pros
- Dishwasher safe and safe for metal utensils
- The pan body and handle can be oven or broiler safe to 315°C (600°F).
- Glass lids are oven-safe up to 218°C (425°F).
Cons
- There are some reports that the chips have nonstick coatings.
- The set includes smaller frying pans than you would expect.
GreenPan Rio Cookware Review – Best for Stovetop Use
I love the GreenPan Rio stovetop pan. This is a great and affordable option for your kitchen if you don’t need oven-safe pots often.
Construction
Hard anodized aluminum bodies are just as durable as the rest, but they also come in a variety of colors. The interior is coated in Thermolon ceramic nonstick.
Rio has both Stay-Cool handles on the lids and pans.
Performance & Cleaning
These Rio pans heat up quickly enough to fry on low-to medium heat. The nonstick coating is durable if properly maintained.
These pans are dishwasher- and metal-utensil-safe. However, most customers have reported that they last longer if they wash them by hand and avoid metal. This is a good idea.
Pros
- Affordable
- For easy monitoring, glass lids
- Cool-touch handles for pans and lids
- Dishwasher safe and metal utensils safe
- Compatible with electric, gas, or glass top stoves
- Three sizes of fry pan
Cons
- Glass lids and cookware bodies are oven safe only up to 176°C (350°F).
- Customer complaints about uneven heating and hot spots have been reported
- Customers who took them out of the dishwasher reported chips and scratches.
GreenPan Prime Midnight Cookware Review- Best 11-Piece Set
This 11-piece set includes 1- and 2-quart saucepans with covers, 5-quart casseroles with lids and 8-inch (20cm), 10-inch (25cm), and 3-quart skillets with lids. It is perfect for all your home cooking needs.
Construction
The Prime Midnight collection, another dishwasher-safe set, is darker than the other GreenPan collections and features a black anodized aluminium exterior and interior.
Performance and Cleaning
The Prime Midnight’s function remains unchanged, despite the interior and exterior being black. The nonstick coating is diamond-infused and safe for metal utensils.
Although it is not recommended for induction stovetops (induction and gas), it can be used with electric, gas and glass stovetops. It has excellent heat distribution and cooks evenly.
Glass lids are simple to use and let you see the progress of your cooking.
Prime Midnight can be washed in the dishwasher. To prevent rusting from the outside, dry the pans thoroughly before you store them.
- Dishwasher safe and safe for metal utensils
- Compatible with gas, electric, and glass top stoves
- The pan body and handle can be oven or broiler safe to 315°C (600°F).
- Glass lids are oven-safe up to 218°C (425°F).
Cons
- Induction is not compatible
- Quality and price are not compatible
- Food can be trapped in the rim by using lids
GreenPan Paris Cookware Reviews – Best Overall Design
My favorite set of cookware when it comes down to aesthetics is the GreenPan Paris set
These cookware items work as well as other GreenPan lines, however some customers are not happy with their stainless lids.
Construction
GreenPan Paris pans and pots come with a grey anodized aluminum base and stainless steel lids. The handles are made of stainless and have a V-shape design to reduce heat transfer. However, they can still be hot while being cooked.
Performance and Cleaning
These pans will work properly if you take proper care of them. The nonstick pans will last a long time if you avoid olive oil and don’t use cooking oil sprays.
The lids can be baked at 315°C (600°F) and are very easy to use. This set is the only one that allows the whole pan (including the lid) to be used in the oven at such high temperatures.
The handles on the lids can get very hot due to their small size. They can be difficult to use without an oven mitt, dish towel, or other tools. Glass lids are more usable than stainless alternatives when it comes to functionality.
The GreenPan Paris set can be washed in the dishwasher and used with metal utensils.
- Oven safe with lids up to 315degC (600degF).
- Dishwasher safe and metal utensils safe
- For less heat transfer, use the V-shape handle
- Three sizes of fry pan
Cons
- Lids are very difficult to handle because they have a small handle that heats up while cooking.
- Some people mention scratches and wear to the exterior of the pans.
- Lids are hotter than glass and more difficult to use.
GreenPan SearSmart Cookware Review – Best for Searing Beef
My top choice for browning and searing meats is the GreenPan SearSmart. The interior is still Thermolon-coated, but it was designed for easy-release searing.
Construction
SearSmart’s SmartSear texture is perfect for searing.
This collection has a more generous cooking surface. This collection has a slightly higher cooking surface because the walls are more vertical.
Performance and Cleaning
These are good for heating and cooking. Even at a lower heat setting, you can still sear and the texture of the surface gives it a nice browning effect.
There have been issues with the pans being too high and oil and eggs running to the edges rather than staying in the middle.
This coating can also be easily scratched, according to some reports. I would recommend that you avoid metal utensils, even if the manufacturer claims it is safe.
These pans can be washed in the dishwasher.
- For easy removal of browning and searing, use a textured coating
- Dishwasher safe and metal utensils safe
- Optimized shape allows for 25%-40% more cooking space
- The pan body and handle can be oven or broiler safe to 315°C (600°F).
- Glass lids are oven-safe up to 218°C (425°F).
Cons
- Coating can be easily scratched
- Some reports say that the cooking surface is uneven and that doming in center of the pan can be seen.
- The more expensive side
GreenPan Mayflower Cookware Review – Best for Featured Updates
My pick for the best new collection is the GreenPan MayFlower Collection. Although it is very similar to the Lima’s function, it features their latest Thermolon technology.
Construction
The Mayflower collection was designed to feel and look like the original Green Pan. These pans have the same functionality as their original counterparts but are updated with new features.
The 5th generation Thermolon Infinity Pro nonstick coating has diamond infusion for a long-lasting, durable non-stick surface.
It is strong and safe for use with all stove tops.
These wooden handles are cool to touch but not oven-safe, making them less versatile than other GreenPan sets.
Performance and Cleaning
Induction safety is assured with the Mayflower collection. Many induction users are delighted with its performance.
The wooden handles of the pieces are not safe for oven use. However, the stainless steel handles and casserole dishes are safe for oven use up to 180°C (356°F).
This set is not suitable for dishwasher cleaning or use in conjunction with metal utensils.
- Compatible with all stovetops, even induction.
- Large handles make it easy to use a lid.
- The quality and nonstick performance have received positive reviews
Cons
- Safe for metal utensils and dishwashers
- Not oven safe
- Sets are not as affordable as others.
GreenPan Levels Stackable cookware Review – Best for Small Kitchens
I recommend the GreenPan Levels Stackable Set as my number one choice for small kitchens. GreenPan’s performance is unmatched, and you will have minimal storage space.
Construction
The stackable collection features the same hard anodized aluminum frame and Thermolon Diamond Advanced coating to provide slippery ceramic nonstick.
Silicone-wrapped stainless steel handles keep them cool while you cook.
The lids included in the cookware sets also include strainers. This makes it easier to clean up.
Performance and Cleaning
This set’s main selling point is its compact design. It uses 30% less cabinet space. This is a great perk for small kitchens. However, it doesn’t come with large handles as other sets. Also, not all pans have lids.
Customers reported that their food cooks well at lower heat settings. The GreenPan recommendations to keep your food warm or slightly lower have been well received by customers, even for stir-fries.
This set can be used with metal utensils and is dishwasher safe.
Pros
- 11-piece sets stack at just 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) high
- Oven safe to 204°C (400°F), lids to 173°C (350°F).
- Dishwasher safe and safe for metal utensils
- Cool-touch silicone wrapped handles
Cons
- Induction cooktops are not compatible
- Some pans do not have lids
- Lid handles can get hot during cooking
- No 8-inch fry pan
GreenPan Padova Roasting Pan Review
This page is not for everyone who is looking for cookware sets. The GreenPan Padova roasting pan is an excellent choice.
It has the same ceramic nonstick coating as other GreenPan cookware. Although it might seem excessive for a roasting pot, it makes cleanup much simpler.
Construction
The pan has a hard-anodized, tough body. Okay, maybe that’s a bit excessive for this pan. It will still last, at least.
Performance
Customers love the ease of cleaning this pan. Customers claim that it makes for better roasts. However, I am skeptical.
It is clear that this pan is sturdy and easy to use.
As you would expect, this pan is quite expensive for its size. This would be a great gift for someone who doesn’t have a roasting pan and is willing to spend some money.
Pros
- Robust
- It is easy to clean
Cons
- Expensive

GreenPan Cookware Alternatives
It’s worth looking at Green Pan’s competitors before you conclude. First, Scanpan is the one I remember. Scanpan seems to be trying to emulate Green Pan. They’re not terrible, but I ended up recommending Green Pan when I reviewed Scanpan.
GreenPan cookware has a high quality and Teflon-free finish that is unmatched by Scanpan.
Blue Diamond and similar products also contain Teflon.
There are ceramic cookware sets that don’t use Teflon and are available. These sets are not Green Pan-resistant, but I’d say Green Pan is strong.
Lima vs. Paris vs. Rio vs. Valencia
I have written quite a few Green Pan reviews. Knowing which are the most popular, and because some of my favorite collections are the Lima Paris, Valencia, Rio, and Rio collections, I wanted a quick comparison between these GreenPan cookware sets.
Construction
These sets all have hard anodized aluminum body for long-lasting durability. All interiors are made of Thermolon ceramic, nonstick.
Rio offers a variety of colors and cool-touch handles. Paris and Lima are only available in one color and have stainless steel and glass lids that can be hot.
Although Valencia doesn’t have any color options, its subtly appealing coloring is. Although the handles are cool to touch, they do not seem as effective as Rio’s handles.
Performance and Cleaning
The four sets perform well when all the manufacturer’s instructions have been followed. Ceramic nonstick is best cooked on low heat to medium heat and never at high heat. Avoid cooking sprays, and use extra virgin olive oil.
The Rio, Paris, and Valencia sets claim they can be washed and cleaned with metal utensils. However, I suggest hand washing them and using silicone or wood utensils. This will prolong the life of ceramic nonstick.
The sets of Paris, Lima, and Valencia are safe to use in the oven, while the Rio can only be used at 176°C (350°F).
Valencia is an exclusive GreenPan set of cookware that is oven safe.
My favorite all-round set, as you probably know, is the GreenPan Valencia set. The other sets have many things going for them.
If I was looking for a set that has color options, cool-touch handles and very little oven usage, I would choose the Rio set.
For a versatile, everyday-useful, hard anodized aluminium cookware set, I would choose the Lima or Paris set. This set could be used to replace my oven-safe pieces.
The lids are what distinguish the Paris and Lima cookware line. The Lima is the right choice for you if you like a glass lid to watch your cooking.
GreenPan Buying guide
Below are some things to think about before you make your final purchase of any GreenPan product.
How long will GreenPan cookware keep its good looks?
GreenPan offers a 2-year warranty on non-stick coatings, and a limited lifetime warranty for pans. Nonstick pans are susceptible to wear over time so the ceramic nonstick GreenPans will last you a lifetime.
The nonstick interiors of casseroles and saucepans will last longer than the 2-year expected life expectancy.
However, there is no reason to expect a saute pan or frypan to last more than two years. Use metal utensils sparingly and avoid the dishwasher. Be careful.
GreenPan pans can last for many years if you take good care of them.
Why does my Green Pan stick?
Your Green Pan could be sticking for a variety of reasons. It’s most likely due to normal wear of the nonstick, which loses its slippery coating with time.
It is possible to cook at too high heat. Green Pan suggests using lower temperatures for maximum nonstick properties and longer lasting results.
Avoid extra virgin olive oil and cooking spray oils. These oils can leave a sticky residue that will make your nonstick stickier.
How can I take care of my Green Pan best?
For your Green Pan, I recommend that you treat it gently. They claim to be durable, dishwasher safe, and safe for use with metal utensils. But, the truth is, no nonstick pan is as durable.
Ceramic nonstick cookware will last longer if you use silicone or wood utensils. It is also important to clean it properly.
Hand wash your pans in warm soapy water using a soft sponge. Layer paper or cloth between your pans when stacking them.
Be sure to read the temperature guidelines of the manufacturer. Ceramic nonstick cookware can withstand high heat but can be damaged if used above the maximum heat recommendations.
Avoid spraying cooking oils with oil. Extra virgin olive oils and other oils that are not able to withstand high heat should be avoided. Cook at a lower heat setting, and don’t leave a pan unattended on a hot stove.
(Normally, I would recommend extra virgin olive oils for nonstick cookware. However, GreenPan specifically suggests that you avoid it.
How can I choose the correct size GreenPan?
Your cooking style and kitchen storage will determine the size of your GreenPan. The size of a skillet or frying pan refers to its diameter. Size is measured in volume for saucepans.
A 8-inch (20 cm) frying pan is perfect for one or two eggs, and a 12-inch (30.5cm), skillet can cook enough food for four.
As a frying pan, I recommend a 10-inch (25 cm) one. It’s large enough to cook a complete meal in one pan, but not too big or difficult to move. Two fry pans are the best, one 8-inch and one 10 inch. They cover all possible uses.
I prefer a 2-quart saucepan for every day use. It is ideal for soups, sauces, and pastas.
Is GreenPan Nonstick Cookware Safe?
Yes. Thermolon is the ceramic interior of The GreenPan. It is made from natural sand and doesn’t emit toxic fumes during cooking or overheating.
GreenPan does not contain any Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE – active component of Teflon), PFAS, or perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA -which has been banned in cookware for several years) and has been certified by the FDA for food contact standards.
What’s Thermolon?
Thermolon ceramic nonstick technology is what sets GreenPan apart.
Sol-Gel is used to turn the ceramic into a sprayable solution. Spray the ceramic on the inside of the anodized aluminum cookware. Then bake the pan in the oven to make a nonstick, durable ceramic pan.
Nonstick cookware is safe?
Nonstick cookware made by reputable manufacturers is likely to be safe. Nonstick cookware from a reputable manufacturer is safe. Although it is not dangerous if used properly, Teflon can emit toxic fumes when heated.
Green Pan nonstick cookware offers a safer and Teflon-free alternative to traditional nonstick.
Can GreenPan Cookware be used in a dishwasher?
GreenPan cookware is dishwasher-safe. Your GreenPan will last less if it is constantly in the dishwasher.
Handwashing nonstick cookware is a good idea. If you have to use the dishwasher, make sure that the nonstick interior doesn’t touch any items in it.
Takeaways from the Best GreenPan Review
The Valencia collection is my choice for the best overall GreenPan. Ceramic nonstick cookware is safe for your home, and it can be used at lower heat settings.
My top choice was the Valencia set because it can be used from stovetop to oven, and has glass lids that allow me to better control my cooking.
Although the Valencia set is dishwasher- and metal-safe, I will continue to hand wash mine and use wooden utensils to preserve it.
If you aren’t sure, I recommend dipping your toes into the water using only a frying pan. I would choose this 8-inch Valencia Pan.
Green Pan Reviews
greenpan
I tried several Original GreenPan options, and the GreenPan Valencia Collection was the best for safe, easy to clean cookware.
Although I love having a wide range of cookware in my kitchen, the ones I use most often are nonstick, quick-washing pans that can be cleaned with soapy water and a sponge after cooking. You get bonus points if the pans can be used in the oven.
You might wonder if the Original GreenPan pans are worth it if you haven’t tried them.
