Lagostina’s History
In Italy, Carlo Lagostina founded Lagostina with his son. This company has been a leading producer of cookware since 1901.
This brand has beautiful cookware sets in a variety of materials, including aluminum, stainless, cast iron, copper, and Teflon.
Although I love Italian design, beauty is second when it comes to cookware. What are the benefits of using it? How affordable is it? And how durable is it?
How to choose the best cookware set
Every person has their own needs in the kitchen. These cooking sets will meet a few requirements.
Healthy Cooking
There are some elements you should pay attention to if you want to reduce your fat intake and cook healthier.
Nonstick Coating
If you don’t intend to use a lot of fat (butter, oil), it’s best to choose a set with nonstick coating.
Ceramic and PTFE are the most well-known nonstick coatings.
Teflon (or PTFE) is safe to use with at low-to medium heat. Many people prefer to avoid Teflon, just in case.
Heat Resistance
All Lagostina pots, including those with Teflon coatings, are heat-proof to 260°C (500°F). You’ll enjoy low-fat cooking and easy cleaning of the cookware if you keep the temperature below this level.
This temperature is suitable for most uses, so it should not be exceeded unless you cook at high temperatures!
Chemical Elements
Other chemicals that can cause poison food leaks include aluminum and copper.
You should not use uncoated pans or pots made of these metals. Copper is a beautiful metal, but it should not be in the outer layer of cookware. Aluminum is the same.
Your Menu
You should think about the things you most often cook when shopping for a new cooking set.
Cast iron and stainless steel are good options if you brown meat often.
Braised foods taste best when cooked in high heat cookware. Sauteed foods taste best when they are cooked in a fast-heating cookware, such as most Lagostina sets.
Stovetop Type
A cookware set must be suitable for your stovetop. What’s the point of buying cookware sets that aren’t suitable for your stovetop?
Make sure to buy induction-friendly sets if you have an Induction Stovetop.
A magnet can be placed on the bottom of a pan to check if it is compatible with an induction stovetop. You’re good to go if the magnet sticks to your bottom!
Oven and dishwasher safe
Oven-safe cookware is essential if you regularly use your oven. Nonstick coatings are capable of handling temperatures up to 500°F. Make sure you check the information provided by the manufacturer regarding handles and lids.
While most cookware sets last longer when washed by hand with warm water and sponge, some items can be put in the dishwasher.
Handles
Hollow-core handles are more comfortable than metal, particularly if they are heat-proof. Solid metal handles can withstand higher temperatures. This is dependent on your cooking preferences and regular menu.
Double- or riveted handles are better for durability.
You can attach separate handles to some cookware sets, such as the Lagostina Essential set. This handy feature serves a practical purpose: easy storage.
Lids
It is important to have heavy lids that stay put so they don’t fall off easily with a slight nudge or the power of trapped steam.
Glass lids are very popular as you can see what your food is doing without losing steam. Glass can crack under extreme temperature changes or shatter when dropped.
These problems are not present in metal lids like stainless steel. This makes them more durable. They can be hard to see through, but they lock in flavor better.
The durable stainless steel lids are common on most of the pans and pots in the Lagostina Cookware Set Reviews section.
Lagostina Cookware Reviews
We review four top-of the-line cookware sets from Lagostina.
Lagostina Martellata Hammered Copper Cookware Set
With its hammered copper exterior, the Lagostina Martellata set stands out.
The 10-piece set features a triple-layer construction. It has an aluminum core sandwiched between stainless and steel on one side, and the outer copper portion. This structure has many great features.
The Lagostina pans are made from 18/10 stainless steel, which is 100% safe. It also preserves the food’s taste. Aluminum is used in the pan’s core to reduce hotspots.
Copper is an expensive metal, as we all know. It is therefore more cost-effective to use stainless steel or aluminum as the main structure. It also reduces the chance of copper leaching into your food.
Rolling edges have many benefits. This ensures that no food is in direct contact with the copper or aluminum. It’s also easier to pour liquids out without making a mess.
This cookware set is made of stainless steel and has riveted handles.
This Lagostina set doesn’t have nonstick coating. This means that you will need to cook your food at a lower heat or keep the pans clean.
Combining copper and aluminum allows for quick temperature adjustments which decreases the likelihood of food sticking. The set has no PTFE, which is another advantage.
Another thing that might concern you is the loss of copper’s color and glow. Copper does lose its color and glow naturally. However, it doesn’t impact the pans’ performance. The beautiful appearance of the pans can be maintained by cleaning them with a copper cleaner.

Lagostina Essential Cookware Set
The Lagostina Essential Set is a great choice for students and small kitchens. It is easy to stack and remove, with one-click handles, which makes it an ideal option for saving space.
Lagostina uses aluminum to increase heat conductivity. It also has a Meteorite Resistium interior that is nonstick. These pieces contain PTFE (Teflon), but it is PFOA, cadmium and lead-free, just like the rest of Lagostina Cookware.
To prevent the coating from scratching, you can use either plastic or wood utensils to cook with this set.
The temperature indicator in the middle of the saucepan, wok and pans shows the ideal cooking temperature by changing color. This is an important feature that can save you time and effort, whether you are a novice or seasoned cook.
It also allows you to maintain a safe temperature to prevent harmful chemicals from entering the food.
Although the set can be used in both the dishwasher and oven, it is not suitable for induction stovetops.
The removable handles could also be a problem. Because of how the handles latch, some users have reported that they can cause scratching and peeling to the interior of their cookware. To avoid this, be extra careful when putting on and taking off the handles.
This set includes plastic lids for all the units. This makes it easy to store your fridge when you run out of Tupperware. (Though I do not recommend that food be stored in nonstick pans.

- Dishwasher- and oven-safe
- For storage, plastic lids are included

- Teflon is not a problem

- Induction-compatible
Lagostina Cookware, Conclusion
Durability is a key factor when looking for new cookware sets. These items are often expensive so a nonstick coating may be an issue. It is the most common thing that gets damaged on a pan, and it is the main reason to throw them away.
My top choice is the Lagostina Martellata cooking set. The hammered copper exterior is stunning, for starters. It’s also a great way for heat distribution, thanks to the aluminum core.
The set is expensive, but the quality of the pieces is enhanced by the riveted handles and rolled edges. The cookware is not dishwasher-safe, but the extra effort might be worth it.
Best Lagostina Cookware Set
Are you averse to nonstick? I recommend the Lagostina Axia stainless-steel set. The ceramic nonstick coating on stainless steel and aluminum work well together. This set is also suitable for use on an induction stovetop.
